The rumours of David Millar have been all over the internet after South Africa’s T20 World Cup finals defeat. After a great loss to India, South Africa batter David Miller opened up on his defeat by posting on his Instagram story-
“I am gutted!! Really tough pill to swallow after what transpired 2 days ago. Words don’t explain how I am feeling. One thing I do know is how proud I am of this unit. This journey was an incredible one, with highs and lows throughout the entire month. We have endured pain, but I know this team is resilient and will keep raising the bar.”
Years of Jinx for Both the Team
Cricket, especially the T20 World Cup has been a very unpredictable sport and this is what makes it interesting. The T20 World Cup 2024 finale was a very crucial match for both the teams, India as well as South Africa. South Africa had no win since their readmission to international cricket in 1991. India has been experiencing a drought of the ICC Trophy for the last 11 years.
Turning Point of T20 World Cup 2024
Initially the match seemed to be in favour of South Africa everthing fliped after the dismissal of David Millar in the last over. On one side his dismissal brought hopes and trophy to India but on the other side it brought tears to South Africa.
There were two strong turning points in the T20 World Cup 2024 final between India and South Africa:
- Heinrich Klaasen’s dismissal and South Africa’s batting collapse: With South Africa needing a manageable 16 runs in the final over, the dismissal of Heinrich Klaasen in the 17th over triggered a collapse. They only managed 10 runs in the next 3 overs, putting immense pressure on the last batsman.
- Suryakumar Yadav’s spectacular catch: In the final over itself, David Miller, a dangerous South African batsman, went for a big shot but was caught by a diving Suryakumar Yadav. This dismissal of David Miller effectively ended South Africa’s hopes and secured the victory for India.
While Klaasen’s dismissal started the struggle, David Miller’s dismissal sealed the deal for India.
India Wins Leaving David Miller In Tears
South Africa was close to winning but the jinx sustained. South Africa’s team is popularly known for not going past the semi-finals in the last three decades. However, this time they did fight well and David Millar especially performed great. In all the 9 matches South Africa played in the 2024 T20 World Cup, David scored 169 runs. His average was 28.16 with a strike rate of 102.42.
Clearing The Air of Retirement Rumors
Miller was seen in tears afterwards and came down to write an emotional note. However, adding the spices, the post was taken to speculate his retirement from T20Is. David Miller didn’t remain silent and responded to all the rumours with an Instagram story stating-
“Contrary to reports, I have not retired from T20 international cricket. I will continue to be available for the Proteas. The best is yet to come.”
His statement cleared all the doubts and reassured me about his dedication to T20 international cricket. As he says, “the best is yet to come”, gives all his fans hope for future wins, trophies, and celebrations.
